Chinese and Muslim Interfaith Wedding in Brooklyn

Pulling off an interfaith wedding is challenging, but Junaid and Sherry prove that love conquers all. Happy Films is grateful to the couple for choosing us to witness the union of two religious customs in the heart of Brooklyn.

Brooklyn Couple’s First Look

The first look is one event we love to capture at Happy Films. But what we love about Junaid and Sherry’s first look is the showcase of their individuality and the union of their culture.

As you can see, the sweet couple wears their traditional wedding attire in contrasting colors. The bride chooses red as it symbolizes the lucky color in Chinese tradition. Instead of wearing a western suit, the groom wears the sherwani.

Each has a solo shot inside the venue and some “couple shots" both indoors and outdoors. The surroundings complement the romantic mood we want to achieve. With our Brooklyn wedding videography shoot, you can feel the romance during the first look.

Of course, we don't miss capturing Sherry while getting her makeup done before the shoot.

Blended Religious Traditions

Capturing multicultural weddings requires planning and a mood board. It’s a guarantee that a photographer and videographer won’t miss the important details in a shoot. We understand that highlighting the ceremonial traditions is necessary because these traditions are a reference to the next generation.

Part of our checklist is the accessories. In the photo below, you can find the embroidered shoes of the groom, jewelry, and the inked palm of the bride. For a keen eye, these emphasize the Muslim tradition.

Embroidery in the Muslim tradition symbolizes the tree of life. It also signifies birth, rebirth, and growth. Jewelry is an important symbol both Muslim and Chinese traditions use during weddings. In Muslim, it means a sacred contract between two families. In Chinese, it means luck and prosperity. It also symbolizes the bride is welcome to the family.

Mehndi Chinese Bride

The henna paste inked into Sherry’s hands is a sign of the union of love. She’s adorned with these beautiful designs during Mehndi, a Muslim pre-wedding ritual. The dark-colored Henna means that the bride will be lucky and will receive more love from the groom’s family.

Dinner at Greenpoint Loft, Brooklyn

Greenpoint Loft in Brooklyn, NY is a 5-star-rated wedding venue the couple handpicked. The guests love the place, and we love it too.

It’s one venue proving that less is more.

It doesn’t need fancy decorations. Simple hanging red garlands are enough to decorate the venue with Chinese designs.

Exposed high beam ceilings and original woodwork complemented its bare-like appearance. Yet, a crowd’s favorite is the open window skylights. It also has a few string lights that add drama to the venue.

Wedding Banquet

Another wedding tradition that we captured is the wedding banquet. It has several elements that showcase Chinese traditions. The Feng Shui-inspired colors are dominant in the table setting. You can see red and blue, which symbolize romance and calmness. The blue color also signifies that they have known each other for a long time.

Although it might not be significant for some couples to take a picture of the table settings, we still capture it to add to the list of cultural wedding traditions. At this wedding, the couple chooses the round tables.

The guests ended their meal with a dessert. Serving desserts is part of a Chinese wedding because it brings luck to the couple giving them a sweet life in their marriage.

Chinese Dessert Table

A common Chinese wedding symbol, the double happiness (囍) character, is printed on the cookies. It represents good luck and fortune. As food of love, chocolate is also present at the dessert table. No one can resist the sweet and silky dessert.

Wedding Dance Party

The interfaith wedding is not only about traditions. It’s also about the diversity of culture. You can find the couple and the guests dancing, which shows that they embrace and respect the culture of their guests.

The couple loves to dance. You can see it in the set of photos we captured.

As part of our Brooklyn wedding videography project, we capture the fun and excitement spread throughout the occasion.

The DJ started the fun with his groovy dance mix. It's a well-celebrated wedding. Guests loved the dance floor.

Even though filled with tradition, on the dance floor, everyone takes their moment to enjoy the party. They dance the way they want it and groove the way they enjoy it.

Freestyle dancing is fun. But the couple and some of its guests choreographed a show that entertains the guests. Some are hilarious and cultural. The couple also has a moment to dance together.

Thoughtful Messages from Loved Ones

These couples had many people who loved them. Friends and family wrote a message they shared with the guests. It’s undeniable that joining the union is much-awaited.
