Indian Engagement by NJ Engagement Photographer

The Story of Ami and Shaahil

Indian engagement ceremonies are lively, colorful, yet elegant events full of meaningful traditions. They are significant as they complete the agreement between the bride and groom's families. It allows couples to set their wedding date finally.

They also kick off the 15-day countdown that culminates in the actual wedding, which is an occasion that lasts 3 entire days!

Ami and Shaahil recently celebrated their engagement ceremony. The grand venue they settled in was the beautiful Ashirwad Palace in Randolph, New Jersey. They decorated the venue to create a romantic yet modern vibe.

Ashirvad means Blessing. It is a Hindu word, often spelled as "Aashirvad". In Indian tradition, blessing ties and confirms the acceptance from the families.

Ami and Shaahil are celebrating an engagement ceremony at this point. This means they couldn't have selected a better place for a new chapter of their lives.

Sunset hour portrait session

As the sun was setting, the guest started filling in.

We took the couple to take some sunset portrait photos outside. As an experienced NJ Engagement Photographer. We recommend having a sunset hour portrait session. It creates magical portraits, that you can cherish. These photos are excellent when you create your physical wedding album.

As with everything planned for the day, the activity was full of meaning. The engagement ceremony symbolizes the ending of Ami and Shaahil’s lives as individuals. This is their new beginning, as an engaged couple.

Standing together under the lush foliage, they painted the picture of the perfect couple. Brandishing a perfect compliment of colors, Ami looked stunning in her lehenga with Shaahil by her side in his beige Salwar Kurta.

The Engagement Ceremony

With the photos taken and the couple back at the hall, it was time for the festivities to begin.

BARNI BANDWHANA

As traditional in Indian engagement ceremonies, they began with the Barni Bandwhana. It is a tradition, where a piece of thread called mauli is tied to the hands of both the groom and his parents.

This practice is done with the intention of sending a request to the gods for a safe wedding day. Afterward, the maternal uncles of both sides present gifts to the mothers of the bride and groom. These include the clothes the bride and groom will wear for the wedding day.

FROM MEHENDI TO PARTY!

Beautiful Mehndi covered Ami's Hand. Henna is a natural plant that leaves the color of Mehndi. These temporary tattoos symbolize the deep bond between the bride and groom. They will soon become husband and wife.

During the ceremony, Ami and Shaahil also exchanged milni malas or flower garlands. These garlands symbolize the couple’s whole-hearted acceptance and love for each other.
Throughout the evening, Ami and Shaahil’s smiles lit the whole room. They and their families could hardly contain their joy as they finished one tradition after the other. The beautifully-decorated mandap gave the affair a touch of intimacy. While the 360-degree seating arrangement for the guests gave each one a clear view of the entire ceremony.

And finally, after the final garland exchange and the last gift exchanged, it was time to dance!
